KILTERNAN CHURCH OF IRELAND NATIONAL SCHOOL -  STUDENT COUNCIL

Kilternan Church of Ireland National School believes that students should play an active role in creating a positive and welcoming environment which is conducive to learning and happiness. We believe that our Student Council plays a key part in achieving this.

The role of the Student Council in Kilternan Church of Ireland National School is to:

  • provide an opportunity for pupils to voice their own opinions and offer suggestions in relation to many aspects of school life
  • discuss issues relevant to our school and to encourage and promote initiatives from the pupils
  • to enhance communication between students, staff and management
  • to promote friendship and respect among pupils
  • to nurture a range of important skills among students, such as participating in meetings, negotiating, collaborative problem solving and responsible leadership

Student representatives will be voted in by their classmates and are guided by two members of staff who hold meetings every two weeks. Topics that may come under discussion at Student Council meetings may include:

  • School rules
  • Behaviour and discipline
  • Health and safety
  • Green issues
  • Homework
  • Friendship / anti-bullying
  • Lunchtime games and activities
  • School uniform
  • Fundraising
  • Making yard a better and happier place

The Council has an important role to play in the organisation of:

  • School fun days – Kilternan’s Got Talent, Easter Egg Hunt, end of term tournaments
  • Charity fundraisers – Christmas Carols, Pyjama Day, Crazy Hair Day
  • Implementing new activities – handball, four square, basketball in yard at break time

A Christmassy Student Council!

This term's committee is as follows:

Seán (6th class) - Secretary and Rep for Junior Infants

Jamie (6th class) - Rep for Senior Infants
Brooke (5th Class) - Rep for 1st Class

Pictures of your class reps are in the corridor. Your rep will visit your class on a regular basis. If you have any ideas for the student council, pass them on to your rep who will bring them to the next meeting. There is also a notebook in your classroom in which you can write ideas.
