  • Summer Term is here! Lots going on in KCOINS.

    Tue 25 May 2021 Arlene

We have been so busy here since we returned to school at Easter and are really gearing up for the summer term. First Class had a visit from RTÉ and were interviewed for the News2Day programme. They have been participating in a pilot scheme examining the benefits of sitting on yoga balls instead of their chairs. We were really proud of how well they spoke on national television!

At the other end of the school, 6th class were also recorded. Our diocese usually has an church service in October to mark the beginning of a new school year for all the 6th class students in our schools. Due to Covid restrictions this service never went ahead this year, so the Archbishop asked Nigel from Taney, to compile a recorded service. 6th class learned 3 songs and were recorded singing as part of this service. We're really looking forward to watching the service soon.

All classes will be going on Covid-friendly school tours next month and the excitement is certainly bubbling around here!

  • Happy Spring

    Mon 01 Feb 2021 A Brislane
We have had a strange start to 2021 - first we were told that we wouldn't return to school until Monday 11th January, and then we were told we would be learning from home for a few weeks. It's February 1st and we're still all working from home, but remaining connected in so many ways. All classes are up and running using various platforms to aid in instruction, communication and socialisation. We've had some really fun Zoom meetings with our classmates and teachers and keeping in touch through our weekly assemblies. This is not how any of us at school would choose to teach, but in these unprecedented times it's important to remember that it's not the school that is closed, just the school building. Looking forward to seeing everyone whenever it is deemed safe for us to return.
  • Science Week at KCOINS

    Fri 13 Nov 2020 A Brislane

Usually at this time of year we would have the school hall filled with all sorts of experiments and demonstrations by students from Junior Infants up to 6th Class. The smell of vinegar would be wafting up the corridors and we would have parents in to view the amazing work being done and the fantastic discoveries being made. Sadly this could not happen this year, but we would not allow Covid to dampen down our scientific spirits one little bit! Each class had their share of science activities throughout the week and learned a whole lot about the world that they did not know before.

Infant classes learned about hot and cold - very apt as we have all the doors and windows in our classrooms open to increase ventilation.

Sounds like 1st class had a really exciting time - they built rafts to test for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross the river AND they made magic potions that exploded!

2nd class did a range of experiments to test their different senses.

4th Class made parachutes and tested them outside - one even floated all the way over the top of the school!

5th Class learned about space and they also built rockets, testing for aerodynamics.

In 6th class, each mini-pod co-operated to do an experiment or demonstration for the whole class. We had erupting volcanoes, colour experiments with Skittles, the obligatory Coke and Mentos experiment and we learned a lot from a failed experiment to make slime!

The culmination of 6th Class's unit on States of Matter was making Gloop, using cornflour and water - a right mess but well worth the clean-up time.

5th and 6th participated in a fascinating Zoom discussion with astrophysicist Cathriona Jackman who has been heavily involved in many areas of research, including planetary magnetospheres, magnetic reconnection, planetary X-ray and radio emissions, machine learning, Space Weather.

  • Happy Halloween!

    Fri 23 Oct 2020 A Brislane

It's hard to believe it's been 2 months since we started back in school after such a long break from each other. The students in KCOINS have done such a great job of adapting to the new rules and regulations that we have had to implement because of Covid 19 - they hardly need reminding to sanitize their hands on the way in and out any more! We couldn't be happier to be back and in full swing again.

School closed today at 2:10pm and will reopen on Monday, 2nd November at 8:30am.

We would like to wish everyone in our school community and happy and safe mid-term break. It will not be the same Halloween that we are all used to, but we are quite sure you will have some creative ways of making the celebrations fun and memorable!

  • Welcome back!

    Wed 26 Aug 2020 A Brislane

We have been very busy here at school preparing for everyone's return to school tomorrow. School will not look exactly like it did when you left back in March, but the changes we have made are all to ensure that school is a safe place for everyone who comes through our doors. Several emails have been sent to parents informing them of our new procedures.

When you return to school, we hope that you will feel welcome and safe. If there's anything that's bothering you, please remember to tell your teacher - we are here to ensure that nobody feels anxious about returning to school and we'll do whatever we can to make sure everyone is feeling good about returning to school.
